1000....

RE: 1000....
wow this subject could get really really touchy! well IMO i believe that if you feel that you are capable of riding a 1-liter then by all means go for it. because from all people, you know yourself better than we do and we don't know what you're capable of in terms of skill on a bike. heck, you could have been riding every freaking minute on that bike for that year and gotten use to the damm bike or it could have just been a sunday driver. do what you think about the situation and take into consideration about what everyone here has said. dont get me wrong, it is true that it is all discipline when it comes to a bike 600 to 1000 to whatever... i've always been told by alot of people especially family and friends telling me "why did you get a bike? are you stupid? why dont i just kill you right now?" even though i take what they're saying like a grain of salt i know what they mean. but it also pisses me off how naive and uneducated they are also. dont blame the bike... blame the driver, whether it's a car or a bike. people are stupid in cars so tell them to drive better! so in a nutshell, do what you think you're capable of. but remember 2 words that i'm sure you hear alot: BE SAFE!!!

j/k. Here's what I think. So at 240lbs you are a larger guy, its natural that you want a bigger more powerful bike to carry your weight. But that's not always the case. Many modern 600s can carry a big guy very easily including the F4i. But depending on what you really want, your riding skill and style, you can get a liter no problem if you take it slow and polish up your riding skills first. by no means does this mean you can handle it in the beginning and you might hurt yourself, but its your decision so be wise with what you do. maybe consider getting an 07cbr600RR or gixxer750 instead. plenty of power on those 2 bikes.
I wanted a 750 as my first bike and all my buddies told me start on a 600 so I did. I'm 5'10 180lbs and my bike carries me well but i'm opting to get a liter bike or 750 next year. I love the feeling of going fast but you have to be 100% in control. Personally i've pushed the bike to its top end limit and still want more. the key is, i'm taking my time...

Now look at sportbikes, 10.6 for a 600 or 9.8 for a 1000. These things are quicker than a NASCAR cup racer or probably a Formula 1 car, those things you have to work for YEARS to become qualified to drive. Now any douchebag (me included) can give Honda $8000 and I got me a vehicle that is without a doubt way out of my league and will take me years to be in control of and maybe not even then.

Wow, a liter bike is only .8 seconds faster?
Braking is similar. A bike will only stop so fastbefore a stoppie. The mass is so high on a sportbike that it wants to torque over when slowed, that is why the rear brake can be hard to use.
But either way, 90% of riding on the street is the same whether you are on a 600 or a 1000 and most people can't ride a 500 to its limits anyway.

RE: 1000....
American just always needs to compare each other dicks. Oh look at me i got a liter bike. Displacement means **** if you use the bike in conditions it was designed for ...........and here's a hint: bikes were designed to go in a straight line.
I always laugh at people being all macho about there liter bikes and tell them that the REAL racers you know the ones doing motoGP are acutally using sub 500cc bikes.

I agree to some degree. We are obsessed with size (SUVs, bikes, homes, triple Wendy burgers) we consume more than any other country. I believe we have lost some of the appreciationof finesse that other country's/cultures have. But with that said, f**k off.
