Actually both bulbs are the same.. its the reflective backing in the headlight assembly that cause the different lighting

who cares how it looks, i kno i dont, you can ever see my head light anyways its always pointed towards the sky. oh and as for jumping the high beam, if you just hook power to it you will not have 2 running lights you will have a running light and a high beam, you would need to adjust the angle and then get a bulb with two filaments and some type of aftermarket socket with 3 wires.

Apparently, Honda still has the setup like that, because my '06 F4i does the same thing, and it's normal. So far I haven't gotten pulled over by a cop for it, yet (I hear as long as you have one headlight, and turn signals, then you're legal). Some other Japanese manufacturer went this route, because I guess it's cheaper to bang em out from the factories this way. Anyways, it takes some getting used to (you can follow the thread on one of my forums about 'hating the left low beam headlight'). The cheap way out of this is to adjust your high beam light (right side) height to a lower angle and run with high beams all the time(only in the daytime of course). The expensive way is to buy the mod kit, but it requires rewiring, and new type of bulbs... so you get both headlights on low beam AND high beam. Ok, nuff said... go read my forum. =)

There are many different ways of doing it. I just bought my bike on Saturday, so I haven't looked closely enough at the bulbs backing to check how "adjustable" they are. The last thing you would want to do is blind on coming traffic with a bulb pointed directly in their line of vision...That's common sense, or Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection taking place there.....
To me I can only think of two possible solutions off the top of my head and both are stated above.
--Assuming both bulbs are the same..

1.) Point the other bulb down lower and keep your high beams on...May or may not work depending on how "reflective" the back plating is and how if it still gives off to wide of a light.

2.) Add a 3 prong socket and tie the new bulb in parallel with the low beam bulb....This would also require adjusting of the bulb/back plate, but would also provide you with a higher rated bulb to prevent you from completely losing your high beam.....

The two obviously most important things you don't want to do is.
1.)Blind on coming traffic. Especially on a two lane road or on roads that you ride near the center line.
2.)Tie the two bulbs in a serious circuit...You would only be giving each bulb 1/2 (assuming they are both the same bulb) the amount of current which would dim the hell out of your lights.

I've been wondering this for a while now. My FZ1 always has both on. I always figured turning one light off was some cool thing to do. Good to know.
