-1 in the front

Hey i remember a few days ago a person on here was told just to do a -1 in the front for the sprocket and was suppose to be a cheap fix to get faster acceleration and but a loss of top speed. I also did a search and noticed that if u do that front sprocket it messes with the spedo and its off from that point on. Also do you have to change the length of the chain or the chain it self if u just want to do a front sprocket change to -1. I dont think i want to do the +2 in the rear just yet and hear from the writing its not recommended unless you are running on the track which i wont be doing anytime soon.
Any help would be appreciated.

i can help you on this one.
I have a -1 in front vortex sprockets with 520 chain. The acceleration is reasonably better. Another thing - you wont lose anything on your top end, at most you can add something. Why? On the highways when we are driving at full blast, the engine can express its torque better with a smaller front sprocket. My rev limiter used to kick in 6th gear withe -1 sprocket, something which NEVER happened with the stock front sprocket. The downside is that it consumes more fuel + more engine wear. Another downside is that you will reach 15K revsfaster and you have to be careful. I possibly redline each gear, and when i changedto a -1sprocket i used to fall in the rev limiter trap cos it engages sooner. I would never go back to the stock gearing unless i am going for long trips.

i did it myself with a torque wrench. I had replaced chain and both sprockets so i dont know if replacing the front sprocket alone entails removing thechain as well but i dont think so. Should be a 15 min job if you have the right tools especially with a pneumatic drill.

i'm thinkin of going -1/+2 as well. don't care about the loss of top end. my bike rarely sees 100 much less 157.some more grunt out of the corners would be nice. can this gearing be achieved using the stock chain? and stil be able to set the proper amount of chain slack? thanks
