+1 -2 ?????? is this what Im looking for???
woot...11.4% good going on the math...hahahah...i found that if you put it on a GPS, i think you'll see it's a little more. for some reason, a lot of bikes come out of the box with the speedo all jacked up already!
Ya the speedo error is pretty big... when we were calibrating bike computers we did a series of odometer tests - the longer the test the better. It can get as big as 7% but typically 5% error anyhow.
That is why I use the number 20%... it includes a bit of that error, the sprocket error and a bit of freeplay around the speedlimit. It is mostly for me so I don't speed horrendously all of the time... I have a bad habit of tuning out the world and riding at a comfortable pace, finding out that I'm more than 20km/h over the posted speed or more.
I'm pondering the idea of going +1 up front on Angie's new F4i, just so the power upgrade from the Ninja250 doesn't freak her (or me with her driving
) out too much. Do you guys think it would be a waste of time & green? Also would this help or hinder the speedo?
Thanks

just because ratio of gear ratios is 11.4 % that doesnt mean that the speedo if off by that much. Realistically it will be off by more, most bikes are off by 2-5% with stock gearing in the first place. If you do it get a speedohealer. Barf on those fake miles being added to your odo. Remember... going -1/+2 isnt going to make you go "faster" as in top speed, it will take away from top speed and increase acceleration. Meh who needs that much top speed anyways. How many times do you find yourself thinking "I wish I had more acceleration" compared to how many times you think "God Im only going 120, I need more top end". Might get buzzy on highways with aftermarket exhaust.... o yeah did i mention get a speedohealer?
well...it'll just delay when the power kicks in, moves everything up the RPM...it won't get rid of it entirely...i think it would be a good idea on a liter bike but on the F4i with the sloppy lowend anyway, she may just fall over when trying to take off in a turn?!?!?!
if you do gear it that way...the speedo would be off similarly but it would read slow than actual speed.
