I have a friend that has a next-to mint 98 all yellow 900RR (15k mi), its crazy fast, he's a novice rider and always rides with his girl. He said its too big of a bike for him, he don't like it because it pulls the front up too fast. Well he wants an f4i, and I just happen to have an 01 f4i with 11k mi. He said something about trading tonight, what do you guys think? I paid $3500 for my bike (i got a good deal).. he paid $5700 for his. How would we go about trading(payoff wise), and what should I watch out for on the RR? Also I dunno about not having the fuel injection if I were to change the pipe or something of the sort. Although I rode it tonight and I'm pretty impressed.

No way man! I mean maybe. Personally i think the F4I is plenty bike unless you really want to go race or something. Plus most of the Litre guys are always pushin their bikes hard so you never know if they have engine damage or anything. Your ride will be stiffer and squirlier which unless you are racin all the time, I dont think is very good.
Equity wise....if you are really wanting to get a litre bike, with the interest rates as good as they are now a days....I think you are better off just trading your in on a new one.
you can get a year or so old one for about 8 grand, plus you get the warranty and know exactly whats been done to the bike.
Biggest thing when you trade bikes or sell cars to friends....is that if something goes wrong with your bike or vice versa you guys will end up hating eachother. I sold a car to a friend and the tranny went out right after...had no idea about it till it broke and I felt terrible about it.
good luck and remember you just got to do whats best for yourself....if you think its worth it then by all means go for it.

So true so true!
I was told my bike when I was looking to buy just needed plugs and it would run like a top... not the only thing running like a top is me trying to fix this stupid thing...
bought it from a "friend"
But... a F4I is a killer bike man, but so is the RR
What are the colors? Any after market components? Layovers (dont think so on this one)?
Let us know what you figure out!

That's a toughy -- both bikes are nice. If both bikes were paid off and it was an even trade I'd take the 900RR (no replacement for displacement). If loans had to be shuffled around I wouldn't trade -- not because of the bikes but because of the hassle. My .02 cents[8D]

I actually have both bikes currently. I have had the 900rr for about 2 years and just recently got an 04 f4i. I love riding the f4i over the 900 mainly because of the handling. The F4i is noticably lighter and easier in the corners. On the free way comfort is about equal except the tank on the 900 is higher so you can lean on it on long rides. I converted the 04 to an 03 tail and seat so I am comparing both bikes with dual seats. Another thing I like about the f4i is the gauges and the reserve gauge. On the 900 I always have to wait for lag in power to know to switch over to reserve. You will have to deal with a choke on the older bike if you live in a cold climate. I live in Arizona so I never used the choke on the 900. The only thing I wish the f4i had from the 900 is the torque. If you have your heart set on the 900rr, mine has been a great bike. The only issues I have ever had was leaking carb bowl which wasn't too difficult to fix. Other then that I just change the oil and put in gas. Good luck in your choice and keep the shiny side up
