01 f4i cross threaded front axle bolt
OK, took bike in yesterday for new valve steam only...got charged for new tire.
After arguing with them because they did not ask me if they could replace my almost new front tire with a shinko tire they proceeded to tell me that previous shop cross threaded my axle bolt...I got the tire free of charge but stuck with trying to figure out this cross threaded crap. The bolt screws in great. Torques fine....it is the 1st thread that was messed up...what are the chances that the inner axle threads are messed up? Could it be tapped or would spending 60$ for new axle and bolt be a safe bit? I've already placed a good 400$ in this bike within 3 weeks and hoping after this I can just ride. Previous owner did a **** poor job at maintaining the bike....guess I can't complain seeing as I'm only 1200$ in on the bike and she runs perfect.

Hard call on this one, without seeing it in person.
It it's just a burr on the bolt, you might be able to clean it up.
The pinch-bolts really do most of the job of securing the front axle.
If it will thread in and snugly torque, you are probably ok.
However, there IS a greater risk, than a full and complete repair.
Be sure you read and understand my sig (the part in asterisks), ;-)
Hope this helps, Ern
