Default What is this part???

Was taking apart my F2 to rebuild the cards, and opened this box to find an orange filter that was completely disintegrated. I havent been able to find out what this filter is for, and how I can get a replacement. I have looked in the repair manual, and dont see anything about this filter.

Anyone have any idea of what the correct name for this part is, and where I can get the filter (or is it even necessary??)??

Thanks

It's an air cleaner for something, so I'd say it should stay on there.
What does it attach to?

Regardless.... if you need the fiche, here it is.
The filter is like $2, but I'm sure the shipping sucks.... so I would probably just get a foam air filter element from anywhere and cut it to shape. (like maybe one from wally world for a lawnmower or something)
It's gotta be better than a disintegrated filter.

It's called a "Sub air cleaner"... I believe it filters the air from the Crankcase ventilation, which breathes into the air box.

The reason it is disintegrated is because it's exposed to oil and high temps, just FYI

Yup. It was oil soaked...what was left of it. In fact, I found pieces of it in my carbs!!

I will try to get a new one from my local honda dealer. For now, riding with nothing. Hope that isnt going to cause any major problems.

Same exact thing happened to my bike. I just rejetted the bike and pulled that off to discover a lovely jelly consistency filter left in there. That filter actually runs to the diaphram's for some wierd reason... don't ask me why as I'm no engineer.

It's easy enough to replace the filter though. No need to order a specific one, just get the right material and cut to fit!

Exactly. I found the pieces in the diaphragm area also. NO idea how it got there, but what do I know.

The subair filter is to vent the top side of the cv stack to allow it to move up and down freely.ie stop pressure / vacuum build up
