Default Transmission help, again

Okay, so to bring yall up to speed. My old motor threw a bearing so i said screw it and picked up another motor from a stunter by my house. Put the new motor in and it ran beautifully except the transmission popped out of second gear under power. So i was like eff it i want to stunt this bike so i tore my old motor apart took out the tranny and put it in my new motor.

okay so this is where i'm at. Put the tranny in and the motor back together the only problem is the shift rod? idk the rod that goes through the transmission and connects to your shift pedal has a lot of play in it. for example if the clutch wasn't their it can be pushed all the way out. Is there a certain way it needs to be locked?

Question 2, i was testing it without putting the clutch back in and i put it in gear real quick and spun the tire and nothing it just acted like the tranny was in neutral. However i have no idea how these damn transmission and clutches work so does the clutch need to be completely installed, springs and all, before the bike goes into gear?

From my understanding of clutches, yes. You need the plates and springs to engage
the motor. The springs compress the plates together, using friction to transer the
power from the plates attached to the motor to the plates attached to the transmission.

Lol ok, then I almost tore apart the motor again for no reason. So when I put the clutch back in and connect the pedal it'll be in whatever gear it's set in? Or should I try and find neutral before throwing the clutch on

Now that I don't know. My knowledge is a clutch replacement about 15 years ago,
and my over-all, understanding of how it all works. Hopefully, one of the guru's will
pipe-up. The only competent advise I can give you, is re-read the manual, or google
for some how-to's, while you wait for someone who really knows, to give you a response.

Sorry, I can't do better, Ern

You can put the clutch back in, regardless of what gear the transmission is in.
