Hey folks,
I've had this CBR for about a year now, and although it never really wanted to start, and never ran great, it ran. One day a few minutes after I touched redline it started acting funny. I emphasize a few minutes after because it may have been a coincidence. It died, then I restarted it after several attempts and this is when it started sounding like a 2 stroke. I had to rev it to keep it running and lost most of my power. I limped it home and checked the valve shims. Most of them were below spec, which means the buckets are closer to the cam than they need to be - something which makes no sense to me.
Regardless, I have done everything else. I have pulled the carbs off a half dozen times, cleaned everything out like the pilot and main jets, pilot screws, etc.
I was wondering if anyone had symptoms like this and could confirm it was the shims? And anyone else that can explain why the buckets are now closer to the cams than they should be? Clearance is supposed to be .16mm on the intake side and I'm getting .03mm and .05mm on #1 and 3 respectively.
edit: I have read the Valve Adjustment thread on here, it was helpful for measuring but I want to confirm this is the case before I spend $80 on shims.
Also, I had a horrific gas leak when I put everything together after a couple months of sitting around. I had a few cups of gas pouring out, and after ensuring the gas line was tight, and float bowls were sealed, I just got it hot, and that seemed to fix it. I searched around and no one had a clear answer so if someone stumbles on this, check your seals and then get it hot.

Good point, I forgot to mention I pulled the plugs and used a spark tester and all were sparking.

I've been doing some research it is possible that it may be the throttle position sensor(tps) picking up a multimeter today.
Mainly because the bike landed right on the sensor. Also its a fuel injected not carb. should have mentioned that in first post. Wish luck
