Default shorten my muffler???

I'd like to cut a section out of the stock slip on muffler and weld it back together to shorten it. Is it that simple or am I going to have to tear out the guts and repack it before I weld it back together?

Thanks for any help,

Drew

I'd recommend using rivets to rivet the can back together. But, for the most part, it is that simple.

I do have a mig welder at my disposal so welding will not be a problem. I assume though that you say rivets because when it comes time to repack it again all you'd have to do is drill out the rivets instead of cutting it again? As far as packing goes though, Can I literally just cut out the section of the muffler and weld or rivett it back together or will I destroy the baffling/packing in the process and be forced to repack it?

Thank you,

Drew

When I cut my can a few years ago, I did the following:

Removed packing and inner baffle.
Cut can down Xmm.
Cut inner baffle down Xmm.
Cut packing down Xmm.
Rewrapped baffle with packing.
Installed wrapped baffle into can.
Riveted back together.

And yes, riveting the can back together makes maintenance/repacking much easier than having to recut/reweld the can.

Ok. Doesn't seem so bad. did you use new packing or just what was already in there. Sorry, never opened one up before.

Ok so I just went to town with my hack saw and took out a section of the pipe. The baffling and packing are still intact and now I just have to weld it back together. To the above poster...Just dive in. No real need for pictures.

Thanks,

Drew

it sounds like it's too late now but I just did my Kerker can last weekend. It has bolts in both ends so it was too bad.
this is what I did...

and of course I didn't grab my camera
