When I put my voltmeter on battery terminals at idle, I'm reading around 14.7V. At 5000RPM it drops to 14.15V. It still falls within the parameters of a properly functioning charging system according to this chart

...but it seems counter-intuitive to me for the voltage to drop when engine RPMs are increased. Am I just being paranoid, or is something still not quite right? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
na, you should be fine if it's within spec. although the AC volts increase with rpm the R/R has to dissipate more heat in an effort to keep below 15V DC so it may not be exactly the same. another thought since you are doing this test cold, the voltage might be lower to account for lesser performance as the R/R heats up. if you ride for an hour then do the test again it will probably be higher than your initial reading but still below 15V.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I had kinda decided to just slap her back together again and ride it and hope for the best since it does seem to be charging within specs. Haven't been able to take her out yet due to bad weather and a complete lack of free time, but hope to take it to work later this week.

So i wired in the gixxer r/r today and i now have a little issue. With the 5 wires connected correctly and the key to the run position there seems to be zero power going to the bike. Now, if i use a jumper wire from the positive post and touch it to the power wire connection from the r/r-wire harness the bike will start. If i leave the connection like it is the bike revs accordingly. If i remove the jumper wire and rev the engine it farts and pops. Anyways, what do i need to look into so that i can start and run the engine without a jumper wire.

I did not have this sort of issue with the stock r/r.

Just swapped out the stock R/R for an '03 GSXR 600 one. It's nice, everything's brighter and the bike idles well for the first time since I've owned it. This is a totally worthwhile swap.

Interesting, I just may have to investigate doing this myself!

my gsxr r/r has been installed. I was just wondering if anybody could verify my voltages as they seem kind of low to me. I am getting 13.5v at 2500 rpm and 13.7v at 5000+ rpm. Is my voltage at 5000 rpm too low?

I had the same problem that you have, only on the opposite end of the sprectrum. My voltage was reading near the upper limit of a correctly functioning charging system. Yours is on the low side, but still (barely) within specs according to this link: http://www.offwidth.co.uk/bike/gener...lt_finding.pdf

If your stator is working properly, then I say just run it and see what happens. Good luck!

Hey all! This is my first post here and I, like others, seem to be having reg/rec symptoms.

My question actually is, on this page that give the lowdown for troubleshooting,https://cbrforum.com/forum/f2-tech-93/charging-issues-troubleshooting-testing-91252/
it says that a particular type of voltmeter is required. I have an Innova 3320.
Does anyone know if that will test the reg/rec properly?

Thanks!
Chip Morton
