I have a 92 CBR F2. I want to make sure this 93 fork will be a direct swap for the bike.

Ive been reading about f2 and f3 fork swaps and I think it just has me confused if the 93 fork will fit or not.

Yes and no.

You can slip that steeting stem right in, and use the whole triple clamp/fork assembly, but you will need F3 wheel, rotors, and brakes as well.
If you go this route, you will lose your OEM speedo functionality, as the F3 does not take speed measurements from the front wheel, like the F2.

If you're looking for a better fork setup, then you could drop in some F3 uppers into your F2 lowers, which I believe does require a very slight modification, but the easiest thing to do, would be to get F2 replacement forks, namely from a '94, which has cartridge forks for better damping, and rebound damping adjustment... and, doing this will retain your speedo functionality from the front wheel.

 

Is the 1993 CBR 600 an F3? i thought the F3 started in 95?

This fork set up is from a 93 CBR f2 i believe. i just wanted to make sure that the fork would fit on a 92 from a 93. i dont know why i mentioned F3 at all....

 

F3 is 95-98 (in 2 generations - 95/96 & 97/98)

94 is the only year for F2's that the forks had the nicer cartridge style fork dampers, and the rear shock had the piggypack reservoir.
also - stock the 1994 forks were silver, where 91-93 were black. I put 94 forks on my 92, upgraded the springs with Race-Tech, and powdercoated the lower legs black to look stock-ish.

F2 and F3 bikes are kissing cousins - about 95% of parts are completely interchangeable between frames, but as you're reading here, may require the additional assemblies to work 100%.

Yes any 91-94 forks will fit, with the 94 being an upgrade over the previous years. Looks like those ones in the link have sold though

Did you need new forks? Re-reading this, I'm not sure if you were in need of functioning forks due to damage to yours, or if you were just looking for an upgrade.

If you needed replacement of non-functioning stuff - then yes you're good to go.

If you're looking for an upgrade, then you're just replacing like for like.

 

wait-I hadn't visited the ebay auction before - looking at it - those are 94 model forks, even though they state they came off a 93.

94's were the only ones that were Silver, and those have the 94 style preload adjusters.

 

You know, I checked out those pictures in the eBay posting very closely, and it looks to me that the seller got more wrong than just the year of the part, but mis-reported the model as well, because those look to be F3 forks.
I'll explain...

Firstly, note the fender mounting bosses, where it seems in the picture, that the front mounting boss is a touch lower than the rear one, which is a trait of the F3 forks - on the F2 they are dead even.

Also, note the beveled leading and trailing edges of the top triple clamp - the F2 has squared-off edges, not beveled - that was an F3 trait also.

Lastly, note the Nissin markings on the calipers, how rather than the large centered marking, like on the F2, these markings are smaller and positioned at the lower leading edge of the caliper, when mounted - once again... F3.


I'm quite certain these are F3 forks, but you'll be able to check as soon as you get them, by holding one of the legs up and lining up your F2 fender with the bosses - if I'm right, then they will not line up properly with the holes in the fender.

The bright side, though, is that you have the calipers, so all you would need then is an F3 front wheel and brake rotors... oh, and an F3 fender.
However, that would still leave you without your front wheel-driven speedo.

If you don't want them, though, I would assume since the seller listed and sold something incorrectly, you ought be able to get a full refund, plus the cost to ship them back... I've never had to do that with an eBay purchase, so I don't know for sure.
