Still need help on this mysterious black wire, the "main switch power lead." On the wiring diagram, it shows one of the grounding wires at the mounting bracket as Gr/Bl so that must be it, but how do I know which one? And, as before, do I splice this both into the bracket into the R/R, or what?

Tony emailed me back saying, "If you can't find the black wire, find main power wire from the ignition switch that has power when the ignition is on and connect it to that."

I'll look at the wiring diagram from the service manual when I get home, but is anyone familiar with the main power wire from the ignition switch?

I ended up never being able to find the black wire. Tony advised me to connect the R/R's black wire to the main voltage wire coming from the ignition wire. I traced it on the wiring diagram to being the solid red wire coming off the main relay (housing the main fuse), so I spliced it into that.

I ended up not being able to test if this is indeed the correct wire because my bike hasn't started due to an electrical short elsewhere in the harness but I would appreciate any feedback you have after you install yours.

Yeah for that black wire there is no specific wire needed.. You just need a wire that only gets power when the ignition is turned on.
