Default Instrument gauge light

Okay, for the record I did use the search function and read everything I could about changing a blown (probably) bulb behind the speedo, but since I don't have access to the same stores as most of you I just wanted to confirm that I am on the right track here.

I've found LED-bulbs with this specification:
Connector type: T10 / W5W / Wedge / 194
Type number Philips: 12961
Voltage: 12v
(No maximum W stated)

And other bulbs with T10 connectors but only with 3W and not the 1,7W stated in the manual. It seems almost impossible to get a hold of the 1,7W actually. Any ideas if the above mentioned ones would work?

Best,
Nite Ryder

The LED bulbs you mentioned will work just fine. Wattage is just a measure of brightness in a standard filament bulb, but LED bulbs are better rated by lumen output because thier power consumption is a lot lower. A 168/194 style bulb is what's behind your gauges. ~3 lumen willbe about what you're looking for in a LED bulb for this application.

I bought my replacement bulbs from here:
194 LED Bulb - 1 LED Wedge Base | Miniature Wedge Base LEDs | LED Car Bulbs | Super Bright LEDs

It does help to buy the right color for the lens that your bulb is going behind (green for neutral, red for oil, blue for highbeam etc), and clear for behind the dials.

In case you wanted to try - I tried the Ultraviolet for behind the gauges to see if I could get a blacklight effect - did not work at all.

Excellent answer, thank you very much, adrenalnjunky. I was aiming for a blueish glow but maybe I should just stick to the regular color. Anyways, really appreciate the answer. Now I don't have to spend hours and hours trying to solve the puzzle by myself. Owe you one, Junky.

Hey adrenalnjunky,

do you still remember how those LEDs sat in the cluster? I mean more or less which wires are the positive and negative contacts? Also if you could do you think you can post a pic or two of how your gauge looks with those LEDs installed? Thanks man much appreciated.

I'll take some pics this weekend if you want to see how it looks with the above mentioned LEDs. Not too bright I must admit.

So you already installed these then, and you dont get too much lighting?

I've used those that yoh showed me in the link and didnt get too much lighting as I wanted so I tried these and they definitely helped out, though these were for my autometer gauges in my car.

Though I dont know if they would fit an f2, since their a little longer but I will probably try them out as soon as I'm finished with my fairings.
