F4i rearset relocater problem
Ok - as some people around the F2 board have done, I bought a set of SVRacing's F4i rearset relocaters. They bolt up just fine to the F2 frame, but I have a clearance issue with my exhaust.
I don't have pics to post yet, but the bike's been laid down before by a PO, and it seems that the midpipe has been reworked a time or 2. This is a full Vance & Hines system, and the can no longer comes off the end of the midpipe. I tried and tried to get it off when I was rebuilding the bike but no luck. I think I could get the 2 separated, but it would probably ruin the end of the midpipe. You can tell that the junction between the can and the midpipe is not factory - almost looks like the flange was cracked at the end of the can and they had someone weld a new flange onto the inlet. There's a little play, but it simply won't come off.
The midpipe almost touches the bottom edge of the swingarm - and you can tell that when the bike was dropped once that the swingarm actually dented the pipe due to contact.
I fell like the system probably would be able to be rotated around and re-situated if everything would move freely, but I don't have that luxury.
Anyone have luck having a muffler shop work on MC exhaust? I'm feeling like I almost need a custom midpipe made up. I've also got access to a mig if anyone thinks I need to start playing welder.

It sounds to me like the new flange was welded on with the exhaust connected, and maybe got some burn-through; which is keeping the can locked in place. I think you may need to go ahead and sacrifice the midpipe to get the system apart, and do a new mid. I fabbed the mid for my Yosh system. It wasn't too hard, if you want to give it a try.
Start with flex pipe from AutoZone to get the routing you need, then go back and get one of the 18" solid sections in the right diameter. Any muffler shop can do the necessary bends, and shouldn't charge you much--I paid like, 15 bucks I think, to have mine bent. Even if it takes a couple of tries--like mine did--you'll still come out way cheap; and possibly get a cool "stubby" for the dragstrip--or just making a nice racket--out of the deal! Good luck, hope this helps...

Yeah - kinda what I was thinking too. I really want to install these things to get my pegs back just a little.
thinking about riding it up to the muffler shop, pulling the exhaust from header back, installing the rearset on the relocater and telling them to make me something that will work. Let them deal with the can being stuck to the midpipe.
Of course my earlier attempts at removing the can were also in effort of saving the midpipe. Now that I no longer care, I could get a little more ruthless. Pull the Midpipe and ride to the shop that way.

Have you tried any penetrants or heat to separate the midpipe? It may be worth one last fight before taking it to a muffler shop if you wanna save the money. But I agree, i'd much rather pay someone to fight that sort of mess and just sit back and drink a lemonade as I watch them.
