F3 Engine, Wiring, Gauges in F2 HELP!
Hi,
my f2 came with a spare f2 that had previously been running before the engine blew. Have an f3 engine, gauges, wiring loom to go in it (though was missing the speed sensor on the engine so have one ordered from ebay) and am planning on using the f2 carbs and airbox. I don't have a front or rear headlight or left handlebar switches/wiring
Have bolted up the engine, connected up the f3 wiring loom to battery, RR, alternater, gauges, ignition coils, rear brake light switch, side stand switch, fan, ?temp sensor, ignition, engine kill switch. Currently when turning the ignition on absolutely nothing happens. I have checked all the fuses. What could be the cause? The only two things I can think of is there a bit of gunk in the main 30A fuse, or whether I need something plugged in that I don't have plugged in, or whether there is a problem with my wiring? I did have to rewire the RR (it was an aftermarket non stock one on the bike) and the Fan connector was different from the f2 one for some reason (it was a male instead of female connecter I believe) but all wire colours matched up.
Please help! I can post photos of stuff if it would help (and if people have photos of their own wiring of an f3 engine/gauges in an f2 that would be awesome!!

Does nothing happen include the guage lights/indicators etc?
what about the starter relay? is that hooked-up? That's where the 30amp main is
so it should be. You might need the left handle-bar switches, because one is the clutch-kill switch for in-gear starting.
I'm just throwing some possibilitys out.
You might post some pics, so we can look for anything obvious. But, electrical
takes a lot of patience and methodology, to really achieve success. Do some googles on diagnosis of electrical systems. I bet you'll find some carefully-prepared scripts,
that go in a depth I could only wish for. ;-)
Hope this helps, Ern

Thanks guys, had forgotten the ground cable on the stator:-p. now have engine turning over, gauges lit up/ neutral, oil, side stand lights. No headlight yet but still waiting on left switch block to arrive ad my right one is off an rr (so no off/high/low.. Anyone know about what to do with the wires right switch block to get headlight always on when bike turned on?
Haven't checked the brake light if it's working yet( waiting on that too).
discovered that the carbs seem to be leaking fuel from number 4 when trying to start bike (bike wouldn't start but could have been due to exhaust not being in too? Should the bike be able to start without the exhaust headers (ie definately the leak in carbs) or is it a combination of the two..

Bike runs!!!
Bike runs! Thanks guys...
so far:
First, removed old engine,
put in 1998 f3 engine, f3 gauges
put in f3 wiring loom, connected to engine, switches etc, rewired radiator plug, hard wired aftermarket RR Really should have done this BEFORE putting the engine in!
put in + cleaned ignition coils and startor
stripped sump plug screw doing oil and filter change (5h working on the bike...hmm why is the sump plug not coming out???:-P)
New Battery
Fitted brake line with banjo bolt, washers from an R6, filled with brake fluid + 15 min of pumping brake lever - brakes are still very squishy, I can pull it all the way in to the bar, anything I can do other than braided lines? My other f2 isn't like this...not to mention the front brake drags quite a bit I believe (even before I filled with fluid) - do I need to take the calipers off and clean them? and can I do this with brake fluid still in?
installed rear fender, pillion pegs
blocked off the tubes coming from the water pump (supposed to go to f3 carb) and from the right side of the engine block (again going to f3 carb)
replaced cab rubber engine mount bits with ones from the f2 engine
installed f2 carbs (45 bloody minutes to get on, hairdrier and everything!)
removed carbs to fit throttle cables, + rout the replaced carbs
helicoiled sump (mate from a bike shop did it for free inc all stuff, though not quite straight so there's a tiny seep of oil) - any ideas what to do about this? re tap out to 14mm?
installed air box/filter
Attempted to start bike, realised fuel leaking out of number 4 carb and bike not starting
installed headers and exhaust, fixed up number 4 carb and fuel line
Started bike!!
Discovered small spring ?from one of the carbs siting on the engine block
Also making a loud noise from the right hand side of the engine - my first thought is the cam chain but my other one did that about 1000kms after I bought it and it was the carbs...can they make this noise?
VIDEO HERE
Still to do: Picking up headlight, rear section with the indicators, numberplate holder etc at the end of the week
get new clutch inner made
As I said I probably need to take apart and clean the front calipers,
spring to hold exhaust on, clamp to mount it to pillion peg
Turn the rear shock around - it's been mounted the wrong way so that the reservoir isn't long enough to mount properly
New tires
find and install some front indicators - contemplating LED's but I hear alot of people saying they aren't visable enough + would have to get a flasher relay...
find a left rear fairing piece as the one I have is pretty munted
Anything else I should/need to do?
Contemplating getting a professional to check the carbs over as they did my other f2 for only about 150 nzd to completely go over (was missing a spring) and balance them
So close to getting on the road!

will bleed the brakes next weekend :-) and keep a cable tie on the lever in the meantime.
Didn't have a choice about the RR - except if I stole one from my other bike as the one that came with the frame was from something like an R6 I think? was hard wired to the f2 loom also.
Only thing I've noticed since running it for a bit longer is a fair amount of smoke coming from the 4th exhaust header, and out the exhaust - I'm hoping its just from the bike being left sitting with oil in in for a while, possibly on an angle, and its just oil burning off - haven't run it for an extended period of time to see if it continues, would this be wise? Should be able to ride it as soon as I get my clutch cable lights and indicators in a week. The other thing is there is a leak in the exhaust can - anything I can do about this other than to replace it? the bike has obviously been down the road and its leaking at the seam a little. Arrow exhaust and I like the sound of it, don't want to spend money on a new can if I don't have to :-P

So going back to the rr - will get it to someone who knows tomorrow hopefully, but end story is battery not charging, the rr is model number sh532c-13, I believe for a trx300...will this be okay to put on the cbr? Ie will it work and is it just my wiring that was bad?
Don't have a voltmeter to check myself, will hopefully get it to an auto sparky tomorrow
