Default Different tech questions

Hi everybody, this is my first post in here. I am sorry about my english-grammar skills (I am from europe).

So i have some different questions about my old Honda CBR 600 F from 1991. It has drivin 50,000km (30,000Miles, Imperial tsk tsk). The bike is my first Motorcykle and for that reason i have some difficulty knowin what is right and what is wrong. I have drivin 1000km (150Miles) on the bike and so far there have been no problems.
Questions are as follows:

1. Often when I shift trough the gears, espacially first and second, they are very "hard" and make a pretty clear metallic "clonk!". Is this normal?
2. One of the cooling hoses, make a "turn" below 90 degrees is this acceptable?
3. The handlebars are not perfectly tight. i.e. when i Turn on the choker, the handlebar turn 10degrees. How do i fix theese loose handlebars?
4. In low RPM's, 5th and 6th gear makes a noice that is almost identical to a car in Reverse gear. Almost like a turbine. is this normal?
5. The bike has a tendency to shake when the engine takes about 5-7000RPM's. Is this normal?

So the reason being that i have bought this old bike is because our tax system on cars/Motorcykles are 205% =)
The Honda CBR 600 from 1991 are therefore not a cheap bike over here.
I will propably come up with more questions.

Steew

He Steew, welcome... the F2 is a great first bike if you respect the power.

First and second gears (and the rest of the gears) should have a fairly significant 'clunk' sound when shifting. But it shouldn't be a bad noise either (hard to explain).... try giving the bike a oil change (amsoil full synthetic if you can afford it) and see if that makes shifting a bit smoother (it should).

Lets see a pic of that cooling hose

you can tighten the steering up fairly easily... download the manual or buy a haynes/clymer... they will walk you through it step by step.

How low are the RPMs in 5th and 6th when it makes that noise? can you record the noise and post it? these bikes are meant to cruise around 5k RPMs and when going fast 10k RPMs is normal... maybe try staying a gear lower and use the full rev range?

The bike should not shake no matter what RPMs (a slight buzzing or vibration can be normal though)... what kind of 'shake' are we talking about?

If I were you I would ask a friend or the local mechanic to take it for a test ride and see what they think.

Hi there I also have the F2 -93 as my first bike and feel almost the same things, vibrateing around 6k rpm particular the foot pins, clonking gear change ( it's quiet if I'll use the clutchless shifting ) Got a lite play even in the right handlebar when i turn the gas, should look up in the Haynes how to fix this.

Bently600 Thx for the quick reply i will try visit my local mechanic, and perhaps post photos and sound record. The "turbine"noice are experinced under RPM 4k only in 5th and 6th gear.

well its funny that ljung has the same "issues" maybe i am just a perfectionist, and that this is normal as halffast1g sais. However the foot pins vibrate as ljung explains.

I would like to here you guys about the forksuspension. How to change the oil is my first question. Is this necessary, and how is it done (i could not fint any post in this forum about changing the oil). My oppinion is that the fork is a bit slow on the rebounce and quite "soft". I am aware of the fact that it can be tightened by screwing the top bolt clockwise. I have not experimentet with this yet. So the Q is, how to make the fork more hard and quicker rebounce and if a Fork-oilchange can increase this performance.

There is a pinch bolt on the handlebar where it goes over the fork tube. tighten it. Handle bar should not move. The fork is slow and soft? If it is a stock 91 fork it only has preload adjustment. Turn the screw in to stiffen slightly. Slow rebound could be some changed the oil to 15 wt or heavier. Stock is 10 wt. If the amount of oil in the fork is low, it will also be too soft. 500cc per fork leg is specified.

That stumble/vibration between 5000 & 7000 is typical on stock F2s, and it gets worse with poorly synchronized carbs. A carb sync (and possibly a valve adjustment, depending on when it was last done) would get rid of a lot of that vibration.

So, update from here.

The handlebars are tightend, with help from some tape. Futhermore i have contactet my mechanic, he will take a look on the enigne this wednesday. He will adjust the valves and tune the carburator. I am not ready to try this on my own. However i have som other questions to you guys.
I have tried screw the preload adjustment. It actually helped a little, however i have screwed it all the way down. Therefore i am thinking about chanceing the fork-oil. Is the way to this just by unscreewing the top screws, and then empty the fork by the bottom screws?

Today i tried to get my taillight of. it realy was not possible. How do i get the taillight of without breaking it?

The taillight is fastened with two screws/nuts behind the taillight.
Remove the seat to get access.

I recommend removing the tail cowl for the best access.
You will find two bolts under the back of the seat that hold this in place.

For removal of the seat, remove the two side tail fairings then undo the two seat retaining bolts (one on each side).
