Default Difference between 45f & 36j carbs?

just wondering what the difference in these carbs are? my 94 f2 has an issue. i bought it and have been fighting a lean condition. noticed that the intake doesnt fit over the carbs right. only the back row of screws on the lower intake bolt up. while looking on ebay i came accross a 45f set of carbs and a set with the number 36j... is it possible they are a little different and the guy put the wrong set of carbs on it?

Without my Clymer manual around, I'd guess that the 36mm carbs are what's on a F2 - just cause I know that's what's on a F3. I could be totally wrong though.

something's been changed if the carbs aren't lining up though - take a pic of your carbs and we might be able to tell you if it looks stock.

I can check when I get home though.

Also - Benjy just posted a pic of his motor - he's got a couple of good pics of the stock carbs there:

According to the Clymer manual - the F2 uses the following 34mm throttle bore carbs:

U.S.
49-state: keihin vp41a
california - keihin vp42a

Canada: keihin vp40a

As I posted before - F3's use 36mm bore carbs - keihin vp60a, 61a, and 62a.

So - I don't know what the numbers you're referring to represent.

Europe uses different ones - keihin vp44a, vp43a, and vp40a - depending on country.

Nevermind - I found the ebay auctions you're referring to. The 45f and 36j in the titles of those auctions are the seller's way of tracking the parts - notice all their auctions have a number/letter code in the title.

Not sure what it means - but it means something to them.

ahh ok. i tore the bike down again today. i bought another intake assembly for 40 bucks hoping something was wrong with the intake that was on the bike and that dont fit either. the bottom bolts line up but the the tops are off like an 1/8th inch and its like the intake needs to shift to the left another 1/8th inch! so close but so far away! i dont think its a cali. model so im wondering if someone put a cali model carbs on and they are just a little different than the non cali model carbs. or maybe they are from a f3.. cant complain i got the bike for 500 bucks and got it running with a squirt of starting fluid after it sat for 2 years. the guy was a meatstick and wired the aftermarket directionals backwards so when i got it running they would get so hot they melted the plastic!! so who knows what else he rigged up with the damn thing
