Carb sync?
My bike has 43k miles on it, bike starts fine no problems. However, it hasn't been tuned forever. I'm the 4th owner? Should I be worried about my carbs not being synced? I do have throttle problems even though I took apart the carbs and completely submerged them in carb cleaning solution. If I do need a sync, how do I do it? I read the service manual and there's a weird "D" shaped screw I have to turn on the bottom of the carbs. I'm sure I need a special tool. Where do I find one for cheap and what's the name of the tool? Thanks
thats just the a/f screw that you dont really need to mess with unless you start modding parts like exhaust an air filter. You can check if there out of synch just borrow the tool from someone attach it to the 4 ports on the carb, have some way the bike can get fuel and fire it up an see what she reads. your throttle response issue may be something else besides the sync
Do a search in the how-to and general tech forums. There are a couple of really good
threads. They discuss everything from the various guages available to the correct
settings for the initial # of turns out for the mains (the 'd' screws).
Try both 'carb cleaning' and 'sync' for your initial searches.
Wrap your head around some of that information. Head back here and then, we
can help dial in your specific questions.
There are some really good videos on youtube, as well. As jveach reminded me,
in a different thread, recently.
Hope this gets you started, Ern
