Default carb problems...

Ok - so i started wrenching on my Honda project after a 2.5 year hiatus. Engine is back in the frame (after snapping a head stud - ugh...) and all is hooked up. Started it yesterday and fuel leaking out of all 4 carbs in the area of the pilot screw. Pulled carbs and thoroughly cleaned them. Put it back together and it fired right up - purring like a kitten.

Fuel still leaking - fast drip on all 4 carbs. All my gaskets, o-rings and seals looked perfect. any ideas??? This is driving me crazy!!!

Are you still having the problem? Are you sure the drain screws are in all the way?

Sorry, realized that you already figured out the problem and had a new one...

The fuel could be coming out of the overflow tubes or the o-ring connectors between carbs. Probably just running down and off of the pilot screw boss. If it is the over flow tubes, the floats and or needle jet valves may have dried out and taken a bend so that they do not function properly. I had my carbs off for a while without gas in them and had to replace the needle valves (rubber tipped) and the floats (non-adjustable plastic tangs had warped). Also had to replace a couple of O rings on the fuel tees between carbs as they dried out too.

I found a carb rebuild kit to replace all those 20 year old rubber bits. Solved my fuel leak problem, but not I am trouble shooting an ignition problem...
