I had the same problem with my RR, just go slowly, make sure all the pins & starter gear is place on correctly & flush...double check all screw is snuggly fasten...especially the one that holds the stator.

It's tricky, but be patience....keep trying...

Then when stator cover is in placed, all pins & holes line up straight, hand screw on all bolt, then use tool to screw in bolt ( rotate ) just do 1 or 2 turns and then move to the opposite side. You want to screw on each bolt little at a time. You don't want to focus on one screw at a time. Just one turn, then move to next bolt, go thru all of them until cover sits flush. takes patience, good luck and don't over torque
