Default 1992 CBR600 F2 Problem

Hello everyone I am new here and I need some input from people more experienced than me with the CBR600F2. I'll start off by saying that I bought my CBR about a month ago and I was having a blast with it but unfortunately last Wednesday I was riding home from my college, about 30-40 miles, which I did about 5 or 6 times previous to this ride and while I was coming up to a stop at around 3k rpm my bike suddenly shut down and would not even try to turn back on. I pushed it to a gas station and checked if it had fuel and I still had over a half tank so I tried to start it again, the red oil light and the neutral both worked along with the headlights but it would not even try to start so I parked it got picked up and came back about 20 mins later and tried it and it started back up like normal but shut off after about 30 seconds. I got it home via tow rope and took apart the stator cover and checked the stator which looked fine. I added coolant and some oil then tried it again with no start still. I bought a new battery and after I put it in it started right up no problem. I let it sit until today because of weather and when I went to start it today the same problem of the lights coming on but no start just dims the lights. I read that the voltage regulators on the F2 can go bad, sorry for the long post but does that sound like my problem or has someone experienced somthing like this with their F2.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

This sticky is a good read and sounds like your issue also.

I would upgrade to the GSXR unit and be done with the R/R problems

+1 The R/R failure is a common issue, and it can lead to a depleted battery pretty quickly - worse yet, it can fry the battery, leaving it incapable of holding a charge.

It's not always the culprit though, for example, my race bike is still running the original OEM R/R, and I've got about 28,000 miles on that bike - I know I'm just lucky right now, and have a replacement ready for its inevitable failure.

With all the above said, you should at least pull the connector from the R/R, and look for any obvious signs of trouble, like blackened wires, and/or a partially melted connector. Then, use a multimeter to perform the tests on the R/R, from the service manual... my point here is, yes, it is likely the R/R, but it's better to test things out, rather than just replacing it in hopes of a fix.
Good luck!

Default Update

I just installed the 2003 GXSR unit i bought from ebay for 44 bucks with shipping included and the bike started up just like normal. I let it run for 3 or 4 minutes then took it on a ride. I rode around my town and some back roads for about 30-40 minutes and its still running perfect! Thanks alot guys for the suggestions on the GSXR unit, Im glad to be back on two wheels!
