How do you prepare paint for clearcoat? It isn't in a paint booth and yes its a rattle can job (please don't make fun of me lol) just wondering if your supposed to wet sand, then spray clear or if I'm missing something

 

Good question, I would love to know the answer to this, I am about to do a bit of painting myself.

 

I've only got the tail section left to paint, then I've got to put clear on everything lol, just don't know what to do

 

Im not pro so take it at whats it worth, but when i color matched my solo seat i wet sanded between each coat with no more then 1000 for the 3 coats of base then clear and again wet sand between coats again with 1500-2000. I could never get rattel can to lay evenly so wet sanding was the only way for me to go. Once it was finished it was pretty darn close to perfect. but again just my 2cents. Maybe some of the painters on this forum could help you out.

 

Did the wetsanding leave a glossy finish still on the clear coat? Or did you polish it too?

 

i wet sanded between every coat including the clear, then after final coat i wetsanded with 1500 then 2000 then i think 2400 then polished it. it was smooth as a babys a#$. it was alot of work for a solo tail but it looked nice when done.
