wait... melts the gauge cluster? Why have I not heard this before today?

Well I ordered a PUIG black opaque windscreen. Its on back order and will prob get it around Christmas. But no hurry cuz its dtoo cold to ride and the bike has been put away for winter. I will try to get some pics after the install if i can locate a camera.

 

You and me both VP. I had never heard of this problem either until now.

At any rate, for those that are still considering painting their windshield just use a good quality R/C car paint (available at most hobby shops). I haven't had any problem with melting gauges, but then again I live in Michigan and I haven't seen the sun in 7 months!!!!!!

 

I've had my windscreen custom painted with a couple of layes of clear I haven't had any prombems with melting the cluster and I can still see out of it when I'm tucked in. My only regret in using the clear it the number of chips that are now starting to show.

Well after much back order, I finally got my double bubble Puig black opaque windscreen. I am amped to go home , goto sleep, and wake up to put it on. Only question I have is, does it just unbolt and replace right on, or do I have to take the front end of the bike apart to get to the screws behind the speedo cluster?

 

Glocker (I've got a 22 btw, love that pistol)... but anyway.

NO you don't have to take the entire front end apart. The screws come out from the front and all thats left are the nylon "nuts" that are in the screen itself (hopefully yours came with them already installed). And if my memory serves me correctly, there are also some "rubber washers" that go between the screw and the cowl (so you don't mess up the paint).Most windscreen mfgrs recommend replacing thesepieces when you put on a new screen - but that's entirely up to you. If the washers aren't rotten (if the rubber isn't cracked and falling apart) I would reuse everything. But if you over-tighten the screws/bolts and crack the nuts - you may want to go up to your Honda shop and buy 6 new ones.

Disclaimer: I am only speaking from vague memory of removing my screen, painting it and throwing it back on there (the following morning). There were several 12 oz. containers of alcoholic beverage consumed during that mission so my memory is a little hazy. I assume no responsiblity if my comments are completely inaccurate and cause you to f*uck up your new, back-ordered, wind screen project! BUT I do know for 100% that I didn't remove the front end - only 6 bolts and the screen.

I need a camera. I got my screen put on and it looks badass.

 

Actually, it came with stickers on it. I took them of and one of the stickers left a residue on the screen. I am hesitant on what to use on the screen to get the sticky residue off. any ideas?

 

DO NOT use heat (i.e. a heat gun). That could really screw up the screen and/or the paint job. Scrape as muchoff with a credit card or something like that then use rubbing alcohol/Oops/Goof Off to remove the residue. After you do that, use some good ol' Honda polish to shine that baby up (I just did that to my new AC-12 carbon helmet last night, looks like new).
