Carbon Fiber vinyl - pics inside
Had a couple people PM asking to see some pics of the vinyl I applied to my heel plates and mirrors.
Mind you I know they aren't 100% perfect.....yet.
I have only done the heel plate twice and the mirror once. With a little more practice they should look flawless. I never used vinyl before, or even a heat gun, so this is all trial and error for me.

Played around with the carbon fiber vinyl a little more...finished the other mirror.
The vinyl is from metrorestyling. Although it came a few days late and their customer support is not that great...they make a quality product.

Those look real good, way better than any other faux cf product you can buy. Have you considered spraying a layer of clear coat on them? Might add some depth/shine and make it look even more realistic.
I second that. Although I like the way it looks now too. Any tips for doing this in the future?
I bought a roll of it for like $25 shipped. I forget how many feet that included but I have a ton left.
As for as a "How-To", I can maybe throw some pics together. Basically I made a template of the heel guard, keeping in mind I needed to compensate extra to be able to wrap it around to cover the back, then cut it. I then used a heat gun to apply it to the heel guard. This was a lot trickier than I though it would be though...as some will see if they try.
As far as my mirrors....
I will officially put out a challenge to see if anyone can wrap their mirror like I did without any seams. It took me about 35 minutes (on the second attempt) to get no seams and looking pretty much perfect. You really need to utilize the heat gun and have a lot of patience. The oem mirrors shape makes it tough to not get a seam. With a little practice I got it though.
Im pretty happy with the results though. Yeah, REAL carbon fiber mirrors would be nice, but I am not interested in shelling out a lot of dough to shave off minimal amounts of weight. I think the cf vinyl just adds a little extra to the bike. I have real carbon fiber heel guards and I like the stock shape of the oem's, so this vinyl gives me the best of both worlds. If anyone is interested in the real cf heel guards I have pm, I want to sell them.
