Easy fixes are the best! At least you didnt have to rip the whole thing apart!

 

hey, I had the same problem on my early bike Yamaha R6, it probably rectifier/voltage regulator. Check it out, its probably located close to battery, its the common problem on bikes. It might melted you connector & wires too, let me know when you find it out.
