Default 2002

I picked up my 954 a couple of months ago (Los angeles). There was a red one with full Ohlins, Arata, etc. being sold next to it. I wanted a stock 954, which the black one fit the bill perfectly. It had 8k miles and I paid $4800. It was showroom clean and perfect. I had all intentions of keeping it stock (been there, done that with my many other highly mod'd bikes). ---Buuuuuuuuuut, I never can stand 3-spoke wheels, so with the 954 I installed RC51 SP2 5-spoke wheels with a new Renthal rear sprocket. And, I had to replace the huge OEM can with a smaller MIVV carbon fiber bolt on, PC III, OEM Euro turn signals (smaller than U.S. OEM), removed all side reflectors, removed the back portion of the chain guard, installed an OEM cowl cover (don't buy a Chinese replica . . . they don't fit!!) and replaced the OEM rubber-topped rider pegs with aftermarket serrated pegs. Finally, I do have linkage plates on order to raise the rear 25mm for quicker steering. ---I'm done.

In general, the 954 hasn't aged much, if at all, through the years. Its "600-size" is current, keeping with the Aprilia RSV, the BMW RR, the ZXR, the CBR-RR, etc.

Cheapest yet, 3400 in '09, sliders, windscreen, scorpion titanium exhaust. I put a viper alarm, and kept up with all the maintenance ritually. Not the best looking skin, but ill put a new one when i end up putting a new engine, maybe increase the displacement just to be original. Ill call it a 979, and it'll be priceless.

3400 hundred cash the day I got taxes, almost got a 600f4i but the guy backed out at last minute; after shaking hands on the deal for 4500, make good on deals people!! 30,000 mi. on it, seemed like a lot to me but ran fine. The guy didnt take much care with it and had a little road kiss marks. I do all my own work: changed oil full synthetic, changed brake fluid, coolant flush, replaced tires and chain, and put viper alarm after some guys knocked on my door looking for someone never lived their. Idled off so i did valve job, and runs like new. Next vfr or 600. Honda is cutting edge, always will be, Suzuki made looms when Honda was making motorcycles.

Default Fitting RC Wheels on a 954RR (or an 04-07 1000R for that matter)

Here's what you have to do fit an RC51 SP1 or SP2 front wheel on a 954:

You'll need a distance (center) collar from a 954rr or 1000rr and cut it to match the length from the RC51, 109mm. Dremel to 'cut' the raised portion inside the RC wheel so the collar slides in snuggly. Fit 954 front wheel bearings, dust seals, and collars on left and right. You'll then need two 1mm thick spacers to fit the 954 axle. These spacers will be installed on both sides of the axle. Tighten everything to spec, and you are done.

Rear wheel is a direct swap.

Default $300

Paid $300 for my 2002 954 with 20k miles. Had been sitting out in the elements on this guys back lawn untouched for 3 years. Needed tires, grips, seat and a thorough cleaning including the fuel system. Changed all fluids, threw in a new battery and it came right back to life. I think I have $600 in it and I've ridden it 300 miles in the last 2 weeks. Paint is pretty faded and will be next on the list.

Puts a smile on my face every time I take it for a ride. Getting it basically for free makes it that much better. I'll add some pictures if I can ever figure out how to.
