BTW sanding will remove the surface hardening of the shim as well. also the Hot Cams shim kit for the CBR 954 also works on the GSXR suzukis so if you have both like we do now, my son just bought one, or friends who need them you can work out a deal to save some money

F4 uses the same kit too. Match the part numbers via the Hot Cams website. I'm sure a ton of the jap bikes use the same kit

hey guys i ended up doing the shims my self and so far so good. Only pain in the *** was cct but other then that it is not bad just time consuming.... But i ran into a small problem! I dont know which size shims to order? For instance these are my new exhaust shims 1.58mm 1.57 1.55 1.59 1.6 1.6 1.59 1.57 when i went online to order them they don't have the exact shim size anywhere. I mean not for all of them, they have 1.55 and 1.6 but not others... Any advice?

Well cbr has gotten an extra 25k kilometers without problems.... I did my 954 yesterday and woooow, what a Change, immediate start up, a mechanic friend explained that the whole shim is hardened, not only the surface,so sanding won't hurt them, if you can afford a shim kit well.... That's awesome. But if you got a tight budget well....

Yes Case hardening can extend more than a millimeter and you may be able to get away with it
. Of course the manufacturers will say Nooo to the practice. As long as you keep the surface flat and true you may be ok. Makes me nervous though. One cracked, untrue, or spit shim is going to be ugly at high rpms.

yikes.. sanding sounds so bad haha. mark the cams and the cam chain with a marker and when you put them back its that much easier.
