Default Transmission woes :(

I have a 2002 CBR954RR purchased brand new in 2002 with under 15,000 original miles. The only mods include an Erion slip on pipe, Competition Werkes fender elinminator, Greggs's flush mounts up front and a Puig windscreen. A few weeks ago my bike started jumping out of 4th gear only. Then it wouldn't even go into 4th gear. Now you can only use 1st, 2nd or 3rd gears. 4th, 5th, and 6th are unaccessible. I do not do wheelies or drag launches. The only thing I do is ride fast and corner hard but this should have no adverse affect on the tranny. All maintenance was performed by the same dealer and I use Motul semi-synthetic 10w-40 changed EVERY 3000 miles.

After reading your forums I thought it may be a bad shifter fork but the dealer has ruled that out and says it is inside the tranny. When he dropped the oil pan, he stated the fork was ok but the shift drum was gouged and a piece of metal fell out!!!!! Without tearing it apart, he could not say what else was wrong but it would cost at least $1,500.00 - $2,000.00 to fix.

Has anyone else had a similar problem or heard of any problems with this tranny? Also would any of you recommend fixing this at the dealer or going to an aftermarket motorcycle repair shop. I live in Southern California and there are motorcycle shops everywhere so do you think it would be cheaper or just foolish to trust anyone outside of a Honda dealership?

Default RE: Transmission woes :(

i dont know much on the tranny prob but what i do know is that the dealer dont always do the top of the line work they should and they do charge crazy prices. if you can find a good aftermarket mechanic you will get not only a quality job but you will also save money.
