I have an 02 954 w/ about 15K miles. Ive noticed that the top end noise has started to get a bit excessive, not to the point of a knock or a tick, just a constant rattle that increases with RPM. Is it time to change my CCT? Is the APE manual one from CBR zone my best choice? Is it safe to continue to ride it while I wait to get the new CCT in?

 

DEFINITELY change your CCT. Get an OEM one, then you won't have to goof with adjusting it all the time. Don't waste time getting it changed either, it can cause serious damage if you let it go.

 

I installed an ape 2 years / 14,000 miles ago, never had to adjust it once.

 

did it make the wired noise only in serthen rpm range or all the time? my bikemakes the noise only from 5000 rpm to 5800 rpm...i am about to change my cct this weekend..

 

Has anyone heard of a CCT actually failing to the point of causing damage? I've heard of a lot of people changing them out because of top end noise, but has anyone ever jammed a valve or anything because of this?

 

does anybody know on how many miles should cam chain be changed??? i know they last long time but how long exactly? 300000 miles more less....

 

Im at 25k and dont have any top end rattle, either that or im used to it but i know thats not the case,Im not concerned but should I be?

Stunter: i myself have had 2 bikes over 80k miles and never had to change it, nor have i ever heard of it being done just due to normal wear.

Pimpin: Just keep riding, it will let you know if it ever needs to be changed.

Thanks Stunt. I know a bit about bikes and usually have a lot of free time lol, i dont think that makes me any more important here then anyone else. Hell there isa lot i learned here too.
