Default Timing Chain Change

So Ive deceided its time for a change of timing...... Or time to replace my timing chain and adjust my valves. Has anybody else done either? Is it easy to do yourself? Any special tools needed? I bought the chain and valve cover gasket and have shims. Any input would be very helpful. Thanks in advance

A service manual will tell you what you need to know. Do you have a manual cam chain tensioner? Or is it still factory? If your doing the chain, I would recommend changing the tensioner.

I have the manual. Planned on using the factory tensioner. How about valve shims? Easy to measure and adjust??? Does the motor need to be taken out or can this be done with the motor still in the frame???

It can be done in the bike. Kind of tight if you have to reshim the cams, but possible. Need a mirror to read the timing marks on the cam gears.

I just did the valve adjustment, and I did it in the bike. Only one of mine needed adjustment. I took a bunch of pics, and sometime this week, I was planning on putting together a tutorial. It's not too hard, just take your time, and if it looks like it's going to be in the way, take it off or move it.

My $.02
