I don't like to rev it much when I'm just cruising.....probably around 3500 rpm or so. With the stock HTEV still installed, there's plenty of torque available.

I am new to 954s... But I have found that the bike likes to hover at the 4k - 5k for crusing... But above 5k is where the power resides... Disclaimer, I am still learning...

I'm with Maverick on this. If I rode around at 5 grand the cops would stop me for excessive noise, and it has plenty of pull from lower rpm's.

okay. the whole reason isn't the lack of power down low. its because it's not good for your motor.

super short piston skirts - that's why. it's got nothing to do with power. it's 400lbs of aluminum - 10 hp would be enough to maneuver through traffic. the really short pistons skirts need inertia from rpms to stay straight up and down in the cylinder - hence you need a lil more rpms. we have short piston skirts so that we can achieve 11,000 + rpms. look at the difference between our pistons and diesel pistons. they don't pivot near as much because they have huge long skirts with a tall piston. but because they don't go above 3,000 rpms, they don't have to worry about the excessive friction (therefore heat) that comes with having those huge skirts moving at high rpm. it's what you sacrifice in order to achieve rpm and dissipate heat and friction.

just don't use excessive throttle from a roll one in a low rpms. if you ever get that crackle noise from a roll on- that's material being taken off the piston walls and sides of the pistons

I agree, you don't want to always go WOT from a low rpm, especially in taller gears. Even though I cruise at a low rpm, if I'm going to pass some one, I will downshift a gear or two most of the time.
