The miles are a bit hight, from what i've seen that seems like a very decent price. I'd ask when was the last time it was inspected, and it also depends on the area. If you're really worried i'd hit up craigslist and try to find things that compare. Good luck!

Get the service history. 954's are due for valve adjustments at 16k, its a $400 job, if he hasn't had it done have him knock some money off the price.

^ you guys are crazy lol. 16k miles is nothing, i really hate the misconception that bikes with miles are junk or about to die. I have personally had 3 bikes with over 75k miles and no issues. Thats a really good price for a 954. They do rec the valve job at 16k, i have checked mine at 20k and again at 40k and still good though. I know a few people who have high miles and theirs were always in adjustment as well.

It fine to have a high milage bike if i was the one to put most of the miles on it. But if it was someone else and they didnt take care of it properly your taking more of a chance.

just make sure the valves are in check ive got 13 k on mine and its time to do them. however it gets rode very hard. the last 5 outings on it were at the track running 9k+ rpm all day for the weekend. 3400 is a great price

I'm also hunting for lightly used 954, but in the NY area. Use Tempest to do a broader craigslist search to check for other 954's - it's really handy:

http://www.searchtempest.com/

In my state, there are about ten 954's for sale with between 10 and 30K miles on them. The average price is 4800 so I'd say this is a really good price you have, providing there is nothing wrong with the bike. You may have to do the valve check. I'd be more concerned about the tires since they may be shot and will probably cost more than the valve check. You may be able use those two things as leverage for whittle him down in price a bit. But it's already a good deal. Check the front fender, forks, and seals for signs of abuse.

I remember reading the VisorDown shootout with the 954, R1, and GSXR and they mentioned that Honda had run the 954 for 24 hours at redline and it came away fine. It's a sturdy engine!

I'm about to pick one up with 12K, Erion slip-on, rear fender eliminator, flush mount front signals, ZG screen, new tires, new brake pads, service manual, rear stand, and some gear for $4500. It's been garaged, very well kept and maintained, never stunted, and owned by someone over 30. I've been shopping for one since the beginning of the year, and I'm satisfied that I'm getting a good deal. If the one you are looking at is mechanically sound, you have a great deal there.
