Default Opinions needed! Chance to get a 02 954 RR

Hey guys I have a chance to get my buddies 02 CBR 954 RR. How much is a bike like that worth? He has a few mods on it and I am not sure of the milage yet. He recently had it some stuff done. Here are a couple of messages he has sent me about what is done to it.

"Yes, fuel injected, 30k miles, 1k miles on the new motor and trans from Honda dealer under warranty, it has a few other accessories, like frame sliders, swingarm sliders, zero gravity windscreen, and a few others, and of course I will give you my brand new helmet (if it fits you of course). "

"I learned on that bike. But I did get my first dirt bike when I was 1 1/2 yrs old and have had one ever since. My insurance is right about $90/month. It used to be $60.month but that company went out of business. And wow you did you're homework huh!? Yes they dyno right around there, my buddy's 954 bone stock dyno'd 131 rwhp.....so mine should be right around 10-15 more than that. It has a 3/4 exhaust, Power Commander, K&N, ported and polished, shaved head, and it is geared lower too. "

Are those miles to high for the price? The price is 6k and he would be giving me his bike plus cash for my car. I know I would still need a steering dampner and this would be my first bike. Keep in mind I am 21 and I am not one of the wild guys. I won't be taking it WAY to fast or try and test my limits, I simply want to ride for fun. The car I would be giving up is a built up hot rod that I am getting rid of becuase I don't drive it like it was meant to be driven. Its sits in my driveway most of the time. I know what everyone says about once you get on but I have something going on in my life so if I get a ticket it might prevent me from getting a job with this company if you know what I mean? Anyways, what do you think?

Honestly if you are looking for a good first bike I'd get something like a 2003-2005 used 600 of some type, R6, GSX-R600, etc. They can be had for in the $4-5k range with around 5k miles. The 954RR is ALOT faster than those bikes, and the penalty for accidentally popping the clutch too hard from a stop or getting on the gas too hard in a corner is alot higher. Also, if you haven't priced insurance, a 954RR will likely be quite a bit more than a 600, depending on who your insurance is with. Especially for a 21 year old.

That said, the price sounds reasonable for a bike with only 1k miles on a new motor and trans, if you can verify the work was done and will be warranteed by the dealer. 30k miles on the bike is a bit of a worry, but if it was well taken care of it should be relatively ok. If you're really set on the bike, I'd say buy it, but make sure you take the MSF course ASAP. It's not really just a matter of not giving it alot of gas, but learning how to ride a bike smoothly, that will keep you safe.

I am 22, my 954 is my 4th bike and I'd say that if you have GOOD experience on a dirt bike and are not looking to be a smart-***, speed-demon, show-off, this bike would be alright. Just take it easy and respect the beast. But, if you have something to prove, hope you like spending time in the hospital. The '02 954 weighs the same as the '02 CBR 600 but is much more powerful and is really much more comfortable than I expected. I have not installed a steering damper on mine. I have a local back road where I push my bike through the corners at 115+ and have never even thought of needing a damper. First, become well acquainted with your bike. Second, have the bike professionally set up to match your body (weight / height). My bike has 12K, the same add on's as yours plus Erion exhaust and I picked her up for $4,300 here in Oregon.
