Im looking at an 02 954 with 27k miles and a problem with 4th gear. It looks like the chain broke and cracked the case also. Overall the bike is clean with new tires and shifts good to the other gears. Whats it worth?

 

Well when you say case it makes me assume the block, if thats correct then not much. I would also say it depends onyour mechanical ability, cause it sounds like you may be putting a new motor and trans in it.

 

Funny subject because i had the same about a month ago. I was also looking at a 27k mile 954 and ended up getting it for 4500. It was a single owner vehicle and clean with good maintenance records just to put it into perspective.

 

+1, you will have at least a grand wrapped up in a used motor if you can do all the work yourself, if not then even more. If your able and willing to do the work i would say it would be worth 2500, give or take.

 

The part that is broken is the case of the tranny where the sprocket is. Nothing that is keeping the bike from running or making it leak oil. Im not sure what the 4th gear problem is though. It will go in sometimes but sometimes it wont. Bent fork? Bent shaft? I dont know much about this bike so Im not sure what to expect.

 

I'd avoid that bike and keep looking.
