Oil change tricks?
Has anyone ever made a V-shaped boat out of cardboard or x-ray film and placed it under the filter when changing it out? I was curious if it is possible to do a quick oil change without removing plastic? I usually like to pull the plastic and clean/inspect everything, but my time is limited right now and I want to get a long ride in this weekend.

You can definitely change it without taking off the fairing, but it's tough to keep oil off the headers. I used (and still use on my repsol) copious amounts of aluminum foil wrapped around the headers ... its a great way to keep it clean and they're easy to clean up but it might be tough to do without taking the fairings off.
Yah I changed my oil once with the fairing on. It was a pain in the ***. I would just take the right fairing off. Makes it much easier. I have never heard the trick with tin foil. Maybe someone could enlighten me on this technique.
just wrap tin foil around the headers so when the oil drains out (what would be all over the headers) you don't have to clean them up after wards...just throw the foil away and the headers are as clean as when you started
kewl I'll try that next time I change my oil. What kind of oil are you guys running. I am running the fully synthetic repsol 10w-40. Should I be running 20w-50 in the summer or vise versa. I'd also be interested to know what everyone else is running.
I will have to try that trick too, it was a mess last time i changed my oil. I run 10-40 all year round but im not going to say thats what your supposed to do, In my truck i run thicker oil in the summer than i do in the winter.
