New liter bike owner...
Hi guys I recently (today) purchased a 954. I couldnt be more exited. Unfortunatly I cant bring it home today. No truck and Its raining. I was just trying to get a handle on what exactly to expect from the bike. I not heard anthing too negative about it to this point. I had 2 motorcycles prior to this. A 1997 Yamaha FZR 600, and a 2003 R6. I got rid of the r6 about 2 years ago and havent ridden since then. Obviously I want to take things slow when I get the chance to ride. (hopefully soon). I had the opportunity to own a r1 rather than an r6 but at the time I felt I was still too new to motorcycles to handle the bike properly I feel like I should be OK on the larger bike. what kind of differences can I expect on my new bike over the r6 in terms of power and handling? Just wanted to see if I could get any advice or pointers on owning riding and taking care of my new investment.

My first bike was/is a 929, which has similar performance numbers to the 954. I haven't had any problems handling it either, but I have brought up this point in other posts - when a liter bike is your first ( like with me and vpsophmore), you don't bring any detrimental habits to the table because you don't have ANY habits - it's your first bike.
Now in your case, you might have to watch it a little (although I can't say for sure) because you've ridden these other smaller bikes. But I'm betting there won't be any trouble - I have a feeling the only thing you're gonna be is pleased. You're just gonna feel that extra blast.

The 54 I used to ride on occasion had a bad tendancy to head shake even with out landing a wheelie, just so light on the front end it would go into nasty tank slappers under heavy throttle in the lower gears. As for power compared to an R6, there really isnt a comparison. The 54 has more torque at idle than an R6 has at peak. It's that much different. You wont have to wring it's neck to get anything out of it.

ok well I finally rode it home from the dealer today. It may be just me since I havent ridden in so long but I just seems like it wants to go fast. I didnt really get in the throttle too much at all but It pulls so much nicer from anywhere in the rpm's. Not like the r6. That bike you would have to put it above 10k to get the real power out of it.

Yeah, these bikes definitely want to go fast. Mine, even at 80 in 6th, I can crank the throttle maybe another 30 degrees of rotation, and the thing almost throws me off. Amazing machines, man.
Hey check out this video of an R1 racing a fighter jet and a Porsche – the R1 has a mechanical at the end, but the first part of the race makes us proud to be superbikers.
