600 vs liter bike
Hey...
In Iraq I promised myself I would buy a rice rocket as soon as I got home. Listeing to other people who said I needed to start with a smaller bike, I bought a new 2004F4i. Since buying it, i put yoshi pipes on it and dropped a tooth off the front sprocket. Even with mods, I feel I have outgrown the bike and I am thinking of upgrading to a liter bike (CBR or R1) next summer. On the flip side I have heard that the CBR600 RR and R6 are faster off the line than liter liter bikes and better handling. Can I have some advice on what I should buy?

If you have outgrown an F4i already you must be one heck of a rider. I have had an F4i for more than 4 years and still can't outride it. Anything that can do 0-60 in less than 4 seconds and top out over 150 is fast enough for me. But it's all preference Dude. The 1000RR is one heck of a bike but not for long rides as it's more aggressive in stance. I'd stay with the F4i.

just buy the 1000. you wont notice a difference lin buying an r6 or 600rr there all pretty much the same. the 1000 will be very powerful and is perfect for an aggressive rider. my first bike was an r6, had it for 4 months and got bored of it. sold it and bought a crazy 929rr. loved it and never got bored of the power.

I ride my buddies 1000RR once in a while and it is considerably faster in every concievable straight line situation than my F4i and I would guess every other 600 out there. It doesn't really feel any heavier, maybe the weight is lower or centralized or something.
If you feel like you need more power then go for it, get the 1000. Aside from the uncomfortable riding position, the 1000RR is awesome.

If you think you're bored with your 600, do a track day. I love it when people buy a new litre bike because they are too good for a 600. Dude, that is more ego than skill talking there. A 600 is FAR more agile than a 1000 could ever hope to be. Brute power, well, there's really no comparison. The new 600's dont make power below 10,000rpm. A new litre bike will smack you in the face with the tank at 6000. It is fun to kick the snot out of a 150hp bike at the track with an unskilled rider on it. Esp with my "old" "slow" 900. Makes me grin every time. Then some little snot nosed **** will pass you on an SV650. Sobering for sure. I would suggest getting to really know the bike you have. Too many people step up too fast because it's the "in" thing to have the baddest **** off the show room floor. But, as stated, it's your money. Good luck.

The only real advantage of a liter bike is you don't have to tap dance on the shifter as much. The 600's don't come alive until about 7-8k rpm. For normal street riding, I'm always tapping down on the shift lever. If I were you, I'd stick with the F4i, or if you're looking for a change, look into the 600RR. A liter bike is WAY too much for anybody, period. But it is nice knowing we have the option to buy one if needed.

RE: 600 vs liter bike
just wanted to correct a statement before that the rest of the 600s are all pretty much the same...
that's a totally false statement...the new R6 is putting out 120 at the wheel...is there a 600 that currently does that other than the new R6?
as far as outgrowing the bike...yes, you may have, but in a totally going straight line sort of way. if that's the case...why did you even post about the difference in handling and what not? if you're only concerned with straight away speed, yes, step up to the liter bike...but if you're speaking as a sportbike rider for canyons, tracks, etc...then you definitely have not outgrown your F4i. it's a totally capable bike...yea maybe old skool but it is...
be careful...without a humble attitude, you're risk for being a statistic is very high...gear up.
