I have just purchased a 954 engine from a guy who said he spun a rod. I only bought the engine because I wanted to use parts off of it, namely the transmission and maybe the heads. Does anyone have a great understanding of what exactly I wont be able to use due to the spun rod? And is that in the upper or lower part of the motor? Thanks in advance, any help or links to help are greatly appreciated.

ive never rebuilt one of these and im not sure of the terminology but if its what im thinking the block or case or wtf ever its call on these things will be beat up on the inside, the throttle bodies and trans should be ok. when you tear into it you will be able to tell.

ok, first off he didnt spin a rod, he spun a rod or main bearing. and that would be i the lower part of the engine. and as far as repairing it, I wouldn't. depending on the miles youd need to re-ring, maybe a new crank, or rod. not to mention new gaskets and bearings as well as labor. such salvage what you can and sell or scrap the rest.
