I got a good deal on an '02 with 20k miles that had been sitting in a guys backyard for 2 years. Needed tires, seat and grips ( all destroyed by the weather ) but mechanically in good shape. Runs great and only needs fresh paint at this point. $300.

Are you all familiar with the old saying "if it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is'?

Post a picture of this $300, mechanically sound, motorcycle. Only a fool would sell a well running motorcycle for that price, but it would take a fool to leave a good bike sitting in a backyard with no protection from the elements, so...............

The chain isn't rusted solid?

Mandy and Dewalt, feel free to start a new thread with pictures of your bikes.

Chain was rusted solid. Had to drag it out of his backyard and onto my trailer. Yes, I did have to replace the chain. Forgot that part. Also found a used head fairing as the one that was on it had one of the ears missing. And changed oil and gas as expected. Put a battery I had leftover from another project in it as the one in the bike was dead. To my surprise, all wheel bearings and even the front fork seals were good. If I can figure out how to post a picture I will. Can't seem to cut and paste a pic from my phone.

O.K. lets see if this works:
First pic is as the bike sat on the guys back lawn. Second pic is how it looks now:

Well I can see why the guy took so little for it. It does look bad in the pic. You did a good job cleaning it up. Is there frame damage on the left side?

That's a damn shame someone would leave a bike like this out in the rain. I can tell mine had been left outside and I know it sat in a storage shed for some years, but all I had to do was clean up some rust on the caliper bolts and a good wax.

No frame damage. Straight with a clean title. I've put about 500 miles on it and it runs great. Went down to the local Honda shop and the service records showed a full service including valve adjustment at 19k miles so all is good. I'm thinking about going all silver. The plastics are in good shape but have been sprayed by hand and look like crap. It's actually pretty amazing that Honda can build a bike that can sit outside on someone's lawn for a couple years and with a little work, can be brought right back to life. Bought it knowing I could part it out for at least double what I paid and was pretty happy when it started right up. Going to keep it now. Guy I bought it from said he got in with the wrong crowd and decided to park it rather than find more trouble. Sold my last sportbike 17yrs ago. Nice to be riding again.
