Default Lost Keys, trying to remove ignition

As stated I have lost the keys to my bike. Previous owner only gave me one key and no Owner's Manual. According to Honda, I can get new ones made ifI can get the "key number" off the ignition. Problem is removing the security bolt on the bottom of the ignition. I dont know the size of them and get not find any source with the information, including the service manual. Please Help!!! I really don't want to pay $250 to have a locksmith make a new key for me.

Just remove the upper triple clamp with the ignition still attached, disconnect the wire harness then you'll be able to see what kind of bolts they are.I believe its a torx bit,but dont remember the size.

$250??? That's crazy! Load up your bike & take it to a locksmith that can do motorcycle keys. They should be able to do this for very little. I've got a 'smith near me that has a tiny hole-n-the-wall shop that makes keys for me all the time. Last time this topic came up, I asked him. He said he'd make a new one, if the bike was there in front of the shop, for $20.

the key isnt the problem. Its the chip in the key why it is so much. Only the dealer can replicate those.

I don't think the US bikes have the hiss system on them.Just remove the top yoke nut and the two on the triple that are on the fork legs and just lift up.If it seems stuck maybe use a rubber mallet to loosen.

me and a friend (body shop guy) go in together and wrecked bikes from auction, this is what we do....

i havent noticed anything exept the 08 + having the anti theft.

the (bolts) on the ignition are rivits or security torx either way. id take the upper tripple off and take it to the locksmith and they can do it like that.

Had to call a locksmith, tried removing the top plate but was being held in place by the ignition because I had locked the handlebars and have not been able to find correct security torx.

i had the exact same issue with my 04 busa. i couldnt find the right security torx(not very secure if you can go out and buy them) so i trailered my bike with the fairings removed(saved on the labor) to the local suzuki dealer and he charged me 17bucks to take the ignition off. later i found that sears had security torx up to size 60 so im sure for the 17bucks i could have bought a set of them. after i got the ignition off i took it to my locksmith and i got it back the same day with 2 working keys.
