I think my ect sensor is going bad
Ok hi first time posting i have had my 954 for year now with very little problems but the ether day i went to start up my bike to go to the store and my temp shot up really fast from a cold start. so i took out my thermostat to see if that was the problem. when i started up it shot right up to 100 in seconds i bleed the air out so i know bubble are not the problem so im thinking my sensor is reading wrong. could use some help on figuring it out. thanks

Is your thermostat stuck open? The temp will shoot up quick without it in there and closed to slow the coolant down. Put a good thermostat back in and start it up with a thermometer taped to the coolant hose that comes out of the engine block and goes to the back of the water pump. You will get an engine temp reading there. Cooking thermometers work well for this, get one for your tool box.

hey this is what i have done, I live in Arizona and when i notice my temp spiking faster then it normally does at start up i called a one of the motorcycle shops and asked what it could be they guy told me it was ether my sensor or the thermostat itself so he suggested that i cut the guts of the thermostat off and run it like that tell winter then by a new one so i cut the plunger and springs off of the base and but the base with its rubber seal back in now i know in cars if you take the thermostat out it takes forever to warm up but i have never ran a bike with out one so when i turn it on now it will shoot up to 180 before the fast idle slows down. back to the thermostat that i cut up when i tested it in boiling water it wouldnt open up tell about 190 but it would open very slow and not by much and when i checked then spring resistance basically pulled on it it was very easy to pull it open dont know if it is supposed to be that easy but i did order sensor and thermostat today so i will know when it gets here if its the sensor or the thermostat i hope its the thermostat so i can return the sensor haha
