are you trying to determine if its the stator or the battery?

if so, all you need to do is take the seat off, and with a volt-meter, measure the strength of the battery while the bike is running, and then while it is not running. if its the battery, the voltage will drop down significantly when the bike is not running. if its the stator, the battery will slowly drop voltage while the bike is running.

Unplug the stator plug while the bike is running, there should be three leads/wires, we'll call them A,B and C. Take a multimeter set to AC and place the meter probes between A-B, B-C and A-C. You should get similar readings from all three legs of the stator. If one is significantly lower, then it's dieing. I'm sure there is info online on how much voltage it should be putting out at what rpms, but for starters I'd test each leg at 3000-5000 rpms and be looking for 45 VAC. You can also test for resistance with the bike off, using ohms on the meter, but we need to know the acceptable range.

Thanks for the advice guys!! Turns out my stator is bad. Wonder where I can find a good used one without having to pay $250 for a new one. I think it went bad after a overheated my bike at around 250 degrees after I put a new tranny in and forgot one very important thing... to hook the fan wires back up
