fair asking price for a 954 that burns oil because bad rings and leaking valve seals?
I have a gut feeling that my engine is shot. I think it has bad rings and valve seals. By the way it burns oil, smokes and by the way the spark plugs look. Its time to part with it. I plan on selling it as is and letting the buyer know what the problems are with the bike. But, I don't know what's a good price range to start asking on a bike with this type of engine damage?

You're getting pretty good gas mileage, I bet it's just valve seals, and not rings. Do a leak down test. If it's just seals, I'd replace them.
If you're going to try and sell a bike with a blown motor, you're looking at least $1500 under what they sell for in you area because of price of engines and how much work it is.

Thanks for being so optimistic. I just wish I had a little more experiance with diagnosing these type problems. I feel like I'm lost when it comes to internal engine repairs.
Btw, When I tried the last couple of full exhaust maps it got 96 miles out of a tank. And when I changed the oil yesterday after about 500 miles it was like water. I'm at a stand still it seems, just about to give up. just tired of messing with this engine. If I had more experiance and knew exactly what to look for I'd be in better shape. Its hard to figure this out when I've never seen it before (diagnostic procedures, how much smoke/ fuel, where its coming from.. ect ect) I'm almost spent.

Can you take a video?
I've had 90 mile tanks before. It was because I was in college, and riding from my apartment to class and back which was only a few miles. I was waiting to for the motor to warm up, etc, so the fuel mileage was way down. If you've been messing with motor a lot while the bike is on the stand - you're not logging miles. And those full-exhaust maps use the most fuel.
Have you tried swapping TBs, yet? That would help you rule out injectors (and it'd probably be cheaper than buying injectors by themselves).
Do you have an air compressor? If you do, I think an autoparts store will loan them out.
Here's a how-to. Its on a civic, but it's the same exact concept
It could be rings if you're getting that much gas into the oil causing it to thin out. But it could be a leaking injector and valve seals. I would assume that a $1500 hit on the bike would make you want to rule everything else out first (like a leaking injector, valve seals, etc.).

To give you an idea on asking price, I bought a 2003 titanium 954 for $2,000 with a blown motor. The bike was absolutely flawless minus the motor. And I see other guys buy 954's with motor problems for a lot less...
So, I don't know how much you're into your bike for... but, before you have to really dump it on the market - I'd rule out ever possibility.

I've inspected for leaks/ cleaned and replaced fuel injectors. They all have good spray patterns and don't leak.
Guess I'll be learning how to do a leak down test...
Also if it matters, I check valve clearances couple thousand miles ago and they were all in spec. Can the still leak if they are in spec?
Btw, I bought it for 2300. Then spent about 500 to get it up and running (tire, battery, and other parts) then 300 for the pc3 usb.
