Default electrical/fire problem please help

hello, long story will try to make it as short as possible

I dont know much about the bike I bought it with alot of work already done (flush mounts, undertail, polished frame swingarm, wheels, etc)

Problem- I started the bike last week and went in the house to get my jacket and the bike stalled- dead batter. I charged the battery and it started fine and I ran it around the block. 10 minutes later the battery was dead again. I charged it, ran it for 5 miles and brought it home. It started again a little later so I drove it to a friends house, left, and on the way home the screen went blank and it died again. I left it, walked home and then drove back with the charger and a friend. I charged the battery and drove home, about 1/2 mile.

When I pulled into the garage there was smoke coming from under the seat, the stator/rectifier wires were burning where the connector would be (no connector on this bike, someone worked on it before). they literally burned a hole through the side of the battery tray. Im not sure what caused it? the stator? regulator? battery? or maybe a bad ground/drain

I cut the wires charged the battery and tried to start it just to see what would happen. It started fine and i ran it for a few seconds without the stator and rectifier connected. It seemed to be fine?

I did have a problem last month, i turned on the right turn signal and the arrow on the gauge screen didnt lite up. i thought it was the bulb. The battery was dead shortly after. I rememberd the bad signal, I tapped the gauge screen and the signal started working again and the bike was fine for about a month after. not sure if the problem is related

any help would be appreciated

It sounds like a ground issue. Electrical problems are the worst. You should stay away from bikes that's been heavily worked on.
