Out of curiosity, does anyone else have problems restarting their 954 after shutting it down at +215°F? It's kinda embarrassing when it doesn't fire right up trying to leave the gas station

My thoughts are Honda designed it this way. The bike has proven to be bulletproof to standard. If you want your bike to have a fan come on at 200.... then basically you'll be riding around with a fan on all the time.

Very valid point BadS1. I'm thinking a standard manual switch install is the way to go for me. Basically, I just want a way to precool my bike so it starts better

954 actually run better at 180* and has more power. The reason our bikes fan starts at 215 is for emission purposes.I have a switch on mine and in the summer,I turn it on around 180 and don't have any problems. And the bike does feel more powerful.

or if you're in sw fl in august sitting in traffic

- you need a switch to save your thighs from getting cooked.

At 180 your bike makes more power which then are also more pollutants in the air.

not that i knew that before you posted, but after researching - it seems that higher temps help with fuel combustion with lower amounts of fuel... the sweet zone on all water cooled combustion engines seems to be from 180-195, but most manufacturers run at higher temps (215-230) because it's the best compromise of fuel economy and power

I can agree and I can disagree. The 954 runs on 80-85 degree day at HWY speeds around 195-200 anyways. 10-15 degrees does not change exhaust emissions very much at all. Heck Buell's run much hotter that with no cooling system other then a oil cooler.
