A thermostat switch? Off the sending unit? I'm sure you could match something up from a sending unit from a car to make it work. so it looked Oem, and wouldnt have to have all the toggle switch crap. Makes me wonder how hard that would be to find.

This is something I been trying to do.It might work for the 954 as well.

The lower temp switch is def a good idea. Im pretty sure you can just jumper the pins at the temp switch plug and the fan will run. Since you are only needing this for this specific event id probably unplug the temp switch run some wires to the plug and then back to a temp mounted toggle. That way you can easily run back to stock with no hacking of the harness.

i did the switch for the fan to come on whenever i want and it works pretty awesome. keeps the bike nice and cool even in traffic like ur saying. didnt have to cut any wires as i just shoved a length of wire into the hot wire slot right at the harness where it plugs into the fan, ran that newwire to a lead on a switch, and then ran a wire from the other lead of the switch to the positive on the battery. works like charm, took like 15 minutes to do. no need to cut and splice the wires into the harness. worse that can happen is the wire comes loose and the fan dont work.... which can be prevented by just wrapping the plug with new wire in a little electrical tape. oh and the normal temp sensor still kicks on the fan as needed too
