i would guess a camera tapped into the cylindar head with some kind of special glass.

this is the reply from the guy who posted it originally
"We were looking at some "sparkplugs" that would let us do that to analyze our head work and combustion (Last engine I built ran 16:1 A/F at 12.5:1 compression, so squish and things REALLY come into play). It had a little prism in it that could feed back to a camera...cost like 3-4 grand per."
