Default 954 with 2 cooler fans ?

we know that CBR 954 is too hot with city traffic. So can we add one more fan to the radiator ? that will always be on to keep bike's temperature a bit lower. It can be turned off with a custom switch. Has anybody done it before ?

i haven't heard of anything like that .. but what is common.. is just to add a manual switch to your exsisting fan.. much easyer and when you are in the city. flip it on or at a long stop light

I think we should let the original fan work on its way. Just an additional fan to keep bike cooler in the city. But I dont know how much power does the fan cost (w) ?

I remember somebody doing this exact same thing like 3 or 4 months ago on this forum... don't remember who or what, but he added a second fan with a manual switch for the same reason

I was thinking the same thing (2 fans) I also contacted several custom radiator shops to see if they could creat a radiator 3/8" thicker but no luck. I was also thinking about searching bikebandit.com schematics for a radiator similar to the 954 in water out/in and filler cap area but have not found the time to do so.

i'm about to do this mod... cuz my bike gets too hot with damn 100 degree weather:

orginally posted at http://www.1000rr.com/showthread.php?t=3778
(you probably have to register to see the page)

-------------

I added a second fan to help with cooling as seen here: http://geocities.com/ibedddave/fan.jpg

1. Obtain stock 929/954 fan that works. Remove stock bracket. Test it before install since it is a pain in the butt to remove once installed.

2. Buy/scrounge 2 small screws and nuts, and one ¼"x1" bolt and nut. Also needed is 8" long ½" aluminum flat stock or something simular.

3. Take off both side fairings.

4. Disconnect fan harness.

5. Remove both bolts holding radiator in place, push radiator off pin on right side and move toward front tire.

6. Remove stock fan.

7. Remove header nut closest to right side.

8. Now the hard part-Make brackets-Cut one 4" and one 3½". Shorter one is bent 90° at 1", then take 2 cresent wrenches and bend longer side about 20° to the curve of the radiator. Longer bracket is bent at 1" 20°, then take the 2 cresent wrenches and twist the whole brace to the curve of the radiator.

9. Put on brackets to fan to be installed. I used Loc-tite to be sure they don't come off accidently.

10. Cut wires to 2nd fan and add about 10". When splicing plug end add 2 insulated female connectors to plug into original fan. See here: http://geocities.com/ibedddave/fanwire.jpg

11. Slide fan in from the left side and put longer bracket on exhaust stud and install nut finger tight. Put ¼" bolt in brace where it is 90° and into head hole, add loc-tite and nut, tighten down. Tighten stud nut.

12. Now fan should be about the angle of the radiator. Now is the time to eyeball it and check. Since the brackets are aluminum, it is easy to bend and conform. Hold radiator in place to see if it is going to hit.

13. Install radiator top bolt if fan is not touching. Push on bottom of radiator and spin fan by hand to see if touching. You may need to tie up the clutch cable to keep it off the fan. Install lower bolt.

14. I pried the fan to make it within ¼" of radiator. It may take time but well worth the effort. I have since done wheelies and have yet for the fan to touch the radiator.

15. While you have the fairing off might as well change the oil.

Thank vtrstunta !
Can you tell me the temp of the bike with the 2nd fan working all the time ? Does it go much lower ? If it keeps the bike at about 90 C degree, I'll do the mod. 'cause in city traffic, 954 is really really hot !
