Default 520 conversion on a 954

What's up everyone? New to the cbr world. Was thinking on doing a 520 chain conversion on my cbr 954. Was wondering if anyone has done this on their 954 and if so, was it worth it? Thanx for any feed back.

Do you mean just going from 530 to 520, keeping the stock number of sprocket teeth, or changing that as well? Changing to a 520 will reduce some of the rotational mass of the drivetrain and should free up a little power. The racers use aluminium rear sprockets to take full advantage of this but they wear very fast. Realistically, you won't notice a difference more than likely. Now if you start altering the gearing you will definitely notice lol. If you do decide to go the 520 route, make sure you choose a chain with high enough tensile strenght rating to take the power our bikes produce. You definitely don't want a chain breaking loose and taking your leg with it.

Yeah, I was going to go with -1 on the front and +1 on the back but not to sure about the aluminium sprocket set. I think I will go with the steal set for longer life. Thanks for the input. Now I just got to figure out what brand to go with.

ya man, you won't get the same mileage out of the chain... but as far as i'm concerned, its totally worth it, and it'll still last at least 10k if you beat the hell out of it and don't take care of it. you can probably get 15-20k if you take care of it.

520 is great upgrade.. They can handle any NEW 1000 just fine... The tensile strenthgs r up there with the best of the 530's... My best buddy's bro-in-law runs a 06 gixxer 1000 62mm turbo..YES 62mm... On a 520 masterlinked let alone n no problems.. For last 3 yrs.!!! 6 psi boost he's 260 rwhp..

Is there a list anywhere of good 520 chains that have been proven to work on the 954RR?

Hey Steve, I'm in the search of a 520 chain and sprocket kit. If I find a nice set before you do I will let you know if its any good or not. Good luck

nothing is going to be proven to work on a 954.... its a chain.

chains do have the max engine capacity ratings, or max hp ratings, and they're readily available online.

so just look for a chain that works with 1000cc sportbikes. i have an rk 520 chain on mine.
